Nearly 2 Years Have Passed

since my last entry! ABSOLUTELY Pathetic. I was starting to assemble a new blog for my teaching stuff, when I noticed this one has been greatly neglected. So much is happened in the past year that I can only touch briefly on each huge milestone
the rest of 2009 was pretty good, but nothing huge to mention.
June 2010, moved in with my bf <3
July 2010, got an assistant teaching gig at a preschool
December 2010, got promoted to lead teacher
& since then I've basically been up to my elbows in work. I've tried fitting in as much art as I possibly can. I've been part of one art show & two craft fairs (one successful, & the other a dud) & trying to involve myself in more, but the local art scene is less than appealing.

I got a message on my Spoonflower account last week(?) asking me to post more recent stuff on my blog. What blog? Oh, this poor thing which has so few posts & so far between. Sorry fan. Speaking of SpoonFlower, let me take this time to tell you about one of the ways I've been pimping my wares, http://www.spoonflower.com/profiles/junej SO GOOD! I love it. Not only have I been pretty successful at selling things on there, but have also become increasing successful at buying fabric with my own designs on them. It's so fun. It's like magic. I was commissioned to design a fabric for this woman who makes baby blankets. I also sold a design to someone on there that I had done in nearly no time at all for some money & gave them pretty much exclusive rights. That made my mom really sad. She's always been really supportive & wants to make sure I don't sell myself short.

My portfolio is totally being neglected as well. I used to be so good about documenting my art the moment it was finished, but now...not so much. In fact, I sold a couple of things at the last craft fair (Saturday) which I didn't even have any pictures of. Lame. I had to get rid of my other site due to some messed up bunk that my host was putting me through. Basically, they deleted all my files & reformatted their website. Yuck. It was an awful mess I guess I'm happy to be rid of.

I will go ahead & post at least one piece before I head off to bed (it's passed my bedtime). This is a painting I did for my grandparents for Christmas this year. It is 16x20 & done with acrylic paint. Since moving here in 2008, I've been working with bigger canvases. Before I never did anything beyond 8x10.

I hope to start making more & posting more. We'll see.

Embroidery

I haven't been posting much, but I'm going to try to post about different projects I work on. I have so many ideas & so little time these days. Anyway, I don't have a post about embroidery yet. I taught myself to embroider about a year or so ago. I had a bunch of threads from my friendship bracelet days & just one day started embroidering. My mom later gave me a book & a little help, but not much.
i did a lot of floral arrangements first.

Since I've moved here, I've been really interested in trying new art mediums. I've been hoping to get into some kind of printing, so I got a linoleum carving kit a couple weeks back. I bought another piece of linoleum and broke into it tonight. I spent the past couple weeks avoiding it. Hoping to come up with some genius idea for it, but gave that all up & decided just to go with the standard floral arrangement.

I like how it turned out and did a couple small ones from the scraps of this one. I'll do more soon.

I also would like to get into ceramics. I'm thinking about taking a class. The only problem with that is having access to a kiln. Hmm.

my mom got me a woodburning kit for christmas. i had asked for it & she came through. it came with some pathetic stencils that i wanted nothing to do with & i got into doing my own drawings really quickly. now, totally loving it. i think i got the shading down more than when i first started. i still only have the one tip it came with. maybe i'll get a fine tip soon. anyway, i'm getting over being sick...i've been sick since dec. 26th, so i'm going to go back to mindless surfing.

Eve of Halloween

Tomorrow is the day before Halloween. My boss should know by then if I have to work Friday or not. If not, I'm probably going to dress up & hand out candy. If I have the day off, I'm totally carving a pumpkin. I didn't do one this year. That's super sad. I love pumpkin seeds too. That'll be a nice little treat. I'll get some cider & eat pumpkin seeds & pass out candy...or go to a football game. My step-sister plays the sousaphone in the high school marching band. I bought this dress that I was originally thinking that I'd be Wednesday Addams in, but now I'm not so sure. I got black hair spray & have the perfect cute Mary Janes. I want to go trick or treating, but that's just not very realistic. I'm "too old." You're never too old for trick or treating. I love free candy. I don't have any friends here yet though & that does make it kind of sad. You know how single sad people get more sad on Valentines Day? Well, Halloween is kind of the same for recently transplanted friendless folk. I say that I'm friendless by choice, but I've lived here nearly two months. I'm gonna give myself a little more time to settle in & then I'm going to start school & it'll all fall together.

Speaking of Fall, it's gorgeous here! Absolutely. The colors are exquisite! I guess I missed some parts of seasons, but not much. Mostly the colors! I want to take pictures. I want to take so many pictures. I usually have my camera on me at all times, but this weekend, I uploaded all of my pictures & I left it at home. Remind me to put it in my purse, won't you?

Doesn't this look like me from the back? Anyone who knows me in person will know that it does. Weird. My friend Blake took that picture of some random girl in IKEA in L.A. & I'm here in VA. Anyway, things are going well. I'm all set up with the nanny job. I start Wednesday. I've been trying to put letters together for L.A. friends. It's hard writing multiple people about mostly the same things. I should get back to that.

Visa Versa

Today we (my dad, step-mama, step-sister, & I) went car shopping for me. The plan was to get a Toyota Yaris, but they're pretty hard to come by. We wouldn't have been able to get one until the end of the month. So we continued the search to a couple of different dealerships. I ended up test driving the Nissan Versa. I really liked it & ended up getting it!

Oh yeah...& I finally moved. I've been living in Virginia for exactly one week now. I have a phone interview with a nanny agency tomorrow. I hope to start working later this week. We'll see, but now I'm mobile...yay.

Long day. I'm exhausted. Hope to write more soon.

happy 8-8-8!
i've been kind of stressing about moving, but have this weekend off & am going to relax & get some stuff done. today, my step-sister, her husband & their kids came down from bakersfield & we had a nice little lunch. i wanted to see them before i go; it was nice. i'm trying to see all of my friends & family here as much as i can before the morning of august 31st (my official date of departure) & some people are a lot harder to get in touch with than others. i'm thinking about having one more party before i go, later in the month. maybe i'll see them there. i hope.

i didn't really have anything in particular that i wanted to write about...well, besides me remembering that today is the 3 of 8s, it seemed like something noteworthy at the moment.

Monk & Greek

So I found some shows that I was on on hulu.com & took some shots of me in the background. I knew what episode of Monk I was on, so that one was easy. I was all over that episode (Mr. Monk goes to a rock show). Greek was a little bit trickier, because I've been on it so much I had to watch a couple different episodes. It's not a bad show. I'm slightly embarrassed to admit that actually got kind of into it & watched the whole first season.

I'm currently in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico visiting my mom. I've been here 3 weeks & I'm leaving Thursday, so it's been quite the trip. A lot has happened. My mom's birthday present to me this year was to buy me a train ticket out here. T or C (as it's called by the locals) is a nice little town. I've been feeling pretty creative here & done many paintings & taken many photos. More photos can be found at my flickr account

This trip has certainly been more eventful than past trips, because the first week that I was here, my aunt, uncle & twin 8 year old cousins were also visiting & we hit a lot of the state tourist attractions that I hadn't seen yet. I participated in the town Farmer's Market. I had a booth of my art. I did two weeks in a row. I sold much the first week & nothing at all the second, but was offered a couple of awesome opportunities to show my work locally. Unfortunately, I won't be around to see any of it up, but some of the paintings of local birds & plants will be shown at some sort of non-profit gallery or institution of some sort. The other offer was from my mom's boss (he owns a fair amount of property in town). He's starting a gallery in about two months & would like to show some of my work there. He wants to do things 50/50, which will mean an increase in my (according to my mom too-low) prices.

Today my mom, grandma & I spent the day preparing handmade gifts for my cousin's baby shower in L.A. I'm going to the baby shower & will be bringing the gifts back with me...oh, shoot I have to RSVP to that..ok, done.

Let's see...oh, yes I've taken my dad & step-mom up on their offer for me to move back to Virginia to go back to school. I'm thinking I'm going to go for elementary education. We'll see how that goes. I'm moving in September.

Got a bit I have to do before tomorrow. Will write more soon.

Me on Samantha Who? & other news.

My friend Joey told me last night that I was on Samantha Who? I watched it here. I told some other friends & family & my friend Matty took this picture. I'm on tv all the time, but I don't really have any proof. I never thought to get a screenshot. All the shows that I've seen myself on are no longer online. I mean, they're probably somewhere, but I don't know if I wanna go searching for them.

Also, I'm thinking on moving back to the East coast...more specifically Virginia. My step-mom has put some pretty good bargaining tools out on the table. I'm definitely considering it.

Hello all! This is far from my first blog, but it is my first blogger blog. I will most likely be posting more often than my other blog. Definitely. I'm not sure what I hope to accomplish yet exactly. I guess I don't have to have anything specific in mind. I may very likely be posting about my art, my work, music, movies & other various topics.

I've been working on a couple writings/comics for a couple of years & I'm actually getting closer to starting them. I've really been procrastinating. I could really use the help/advice of any comic book artists or illustrators on media. I've been drawing them by hand, but it's not quite turning out like in my head. Also, I put it into illustrator & have been working with it in there, but it looks a little stiff. I have a million ideas, but it's just not turning out as hoped. I'm thinking about trying watercolors next. Who knows.

Well, I look forward to writing more soon. I just want to get the first one out into cyberspace.
